YUMMY!!!
If you know me, you know that I am very into the benefits of a healthy gut. It’s a constant pursuit of mine. Regularly consuming fermented foods is one way to experience the benefits: a strong immune system, better digestion, good mood, and improved overall health and well-being.
Here are some easy fermented foods I add to my diet as often as I can:
- a shot of apple cider vinegar
- a couple spoonful’s of sauerkraut
- a small glass of kombucha
- a pickle
- sourdough bread
And more options:
- miso, tempeh, natto
- kimchi
- yogurt, kefir
KEY: Look for naturally fermented products (without added sugar or preservatives).
The probiotic content and bioactive compounds created during fermentation break down complex compounds making food easier to digest. They fortify gut barriers, reducing inflammation and strengthening immunity. They increase the ability to absorb nutrients like B vitamins, iron, and zinc. When the known gut-brain connection is healthy, there is reduced anxiety and depression. Who doesn’t want that?
For all these reasons, fermented foods are something I have to have!
