Take the Mess Out of Messages

This should never, EVER happen!
Are you getting a slew of texts you didn’t ask for and don’t want? Political ads? Re-order reminders? Prescriptions that aren’t yours? Are they clogging up your Messages inbox? Does this sound at all familiar? If so, it’s time to take back control with these quick tips.

If you think you’ve already got a handle on this, then skip it! Or perhaps there is something new to be learned here. There was for me! #alwaysbelearning.

3 Texting tips you can use NOW:

1. STOP and BLOCK unwanted texts. For all those unsolicited texts, reply by typing S-T-O-P. If they’re automated, you will receive immediate recognition that you have successfully unsubscribed to these annoying texts. Be prepared, they may likely keep coming from other phone numbers. You can block these numbers as they come. To BLOCK, touch the phone number at the top, the contact screen appears, click “Info” toward the right, scroll to the bottom of the screen for the option to select “Block Caller” in red. Boom! Blocked!

2. DELETE the text. After stopping, and blocking, swipe left to DELETE the whole thing from your Messages list. This way you’ll no longer be storing them and stumbling upon text chains that are irrelevant to you.

3. PIN contacts whose texts you want to see most! Are you waiting for an urgent text? Put your most important contact’s texts at the top of your Messages inbox…keeping them front and center, not getting buried among all other texts.. Do this by going into (all) Messages, hit “Edit” (top left), “Edit Pins”, select the contact(s) you want at the top, then hit “Done” (upper left again). Your Messages screen will show the prioritized pinned contact(s) at the tippy top! Now you can keep a better eye on them, as needed.

P.S. Here’s something I didn’t know before! You can mark a text as “Unread”! And conversely, you can mark one or all texts as “Read”, which is handy if you’ve neglected opening a lot of the garbage that keeps coming in.

Simply go into (all) Messages, hit “Edit” (top left), “Select Messages”, hit one or more of them to select, then click “Unread” at the bottom left. Et voila! They will appear unread again in your inbox. The “Read All” option can take care of any and all unread texts. Check it out! Play with it!

Again, if you already have a handle on your incoming text messages, then you know all of this! But if you’re someone who has a ton of unread texts, or texts that fall through the cracks, these tips might be super helpful to you going forward.

Text messaging is known to be the most immediate form of communication. Which makes it a vital area to manage well for yourself. If you have any questions, or need my help, let me know. I’m here!
