A LinkedIn profile can be the most important online presence for the professional YOU. Because of its powerful search functionalities within its platform, some say it’s the ONLY social media platform that IS a search engine. LinkedIn is the place professionals go to FIND, and be FOUND by, other professionals. Isn’t that worth taking a quick minute to make sure your profile represents you well? Here’s another thing! Supposedly only 4% of professionals post content in LinkedIn. And not even every day! Only about 1, 2, maybe 3 times a week! Hard to believe given the sheer amount of content on the platform. Even if you never EVER want to post, the abundance of content is there for you. And a lot of it is worth consuming! Knowing all of this about LinkedIn: the go-to for professionals, extensive search functionality, loads of useful content, limited competition on content…are these good enough reasons to have a fresh, all-star LinkedIn profile? If so, here are 3 quick places to start! 1. Make your Headline more descriptive of WHAT you do. Don’t just list your title in the Headline. Take advantage of the opportunity (and the high number of allowable characters) to actually describe some of what you DO. For example, I am a Virtual Assistant, my Headline says “Virtual Assistant for Service Based Solo Professionals | KIMCOAST.com”. This obviously explains more about what I do, hopefully eliminating some unnecessary confusion right away. What could yours say? 2. Update your Contact Info. So important to have your current email address and your current website for your current business. Depending on your type of business and your preferences, decide whether you want to show your phone number or not. Bottom line, you want to make it as easy as possible for people to contact you. 3. Edit your Public Profile & URL. In the top right of your profile page, click on “Edit your Public Profile & URL”. Make this quick little change from the LinkedIn URL that was assigned to you, to one that you want, is easy, and makes sense. (When I see this is not updated, it’s an indicator to me the person might not be optimizing the power of their LinkedIn fully.) Edit it to be your name only (if it’s available, or with a dash or some variation), rather than your company name, which could change over time. Be sure to update everywhere you refer to your LinkedIn URL, now that it has changed and makes better sense! So simple!
