A lot of my clients complain of their challenges to manage their daily technology use. Some struggle on a disastrous level! But guess what? It doesn’t have to be like that! And it doesn’t take that much to get a HANDLE on it either. Introducing two words: Going forward. I find myself frequently telling clients, “you will want to do this, going forward”. It diffuses a lot of the anxiety, stress and fear. Immediately things seem way less daunting and way more doable! Here are areas you can make quick adjustments, take control, and start to feel like you have a handle on your technology and organization. Remember…this is going forward. Text messages: Reply “STOP” to the annoying text messages you receive that have nothing to do with you. Then delete them! TIP: To properly SAVE a text you think you will need, screenshot it and email it to yourself. Take these actions going forward, and you will have text messages squared away! Emails: I’ve dedicated an entire article to this. See article. Try to keep your inbox down to ACTIONABLE ITEMS only! There are systems needed when your email inbox is out of control. Seriously think about getting a handle on this going forward because email can be one of the MOST useful tools, no matter who you are, or what you do! Let’s get you feeling in control of email, not the other way around. Let me know if you want my help in this department. Calendar: Because you are only ONE person, can be in only ONE place at a time, you should have only ONE calendar. Sync and consolidate and use one master calendar going forward. More on this in my “Things I Have to Have”. This is another area I can assist you! Digital files: The goal is to be able to FIND what you’re looking for…easily! If that is already happening, your system is working! If not, it’s not! Set up folders and sub folders in Google One Drive or Dropbox, etc. Do this consistently and going forward. Don’t feel you need to clean up the mess from before. It is a colossal waste of time! Photos: Regularly delete pics you don’t need. They are garbage…and you know it! They will still be in your deleted folder for a bit if you made a mistake. TIP: Create folders in Photos to easily FIND certain pics or screenshots you need quickly (i.e. work related, recipes, significant moments). This will eliminate the time suck of always having to search through thousands of photos over and over and over again! The pics will be in both places! This is very helpful going forward. Music: How important is this to you? File music by genre or create playlists as you go. I have my own system. Implement whatever system works best for you…and use it…going forward. You will feel like nothing is falling through the cracks, you’re capturing everything you want…no regrets! Not to say you need to change all these systems. But if you are repeatedly bumping into frustration in these areas of technology, it’s time to implement something….going forward. You do not have to feel this way anymore. These are very common problems people ask for my help. I LOVE this stuff, and I love helping! Start with one! Just remember to tell yourself, “I’m doing this going forward”, and you will start to feel more organized and in control of that particular area. Then move on to the next. Need help? I am here! |
