Is your dining room table covered with stuff you haven’t put away yet? A catch-all for things that don’t have their own place? How about the crap in your car’s center console? Or the random trinkets atop your dresser? Or the one-off documents and empty folders in your Google Drive? Or the mess that is your email inbox? Have I hit upon an area (or two) that needs tidying? Or are you truly able to find anything within moments? If so, congratulations! If NO, this is your wake up call, a reminder, a call to action! A time to figure out a place for everything…EVERYTHING! This is going to sound really basic: if those misfit items had a home, you could put them away! Whoa! What a concept! We know this. But do we ever really take action? Or do we just look at the pile, scold ourselves for not dealing with it, and carry on with our lives? Yes, we have physical belongings, but what about the digital world we live in too! Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, right? Are we feeling so organized that we can put our eyes on an exact document, or the data we need, in a few seconds? Do you have a system? Does it work for you? Do you know? If you cannot wrap your brain around this, let alone know where to start, don’t worry. I can help you develop your digital organization, thoughtfully and carefully. Trust me, you will love having a system that makes sense, cataloged and curated with a place for everything…EVERYTHING. For today, let’s just stick to the benefits of having a place for everything. Some reasons are obvious, others may surprise you! Here’s the list: Reduces stress and anxiety. Less clutter and chaos. You’ll be more organized, confidently enjoying the clarity, peace and calm. Saves time. Routine tasks go faster when you spend less time looking for things. Enhances productivity. Organized space allows for better focus and decision making. Improves mental clarity and creativity. A clearer mind unleashes enhanced creativity. Encourages mindful living. Fosters intentionality with your possessions and habits. (Love this) Boosts energy and motivation. Feeling accomplished over the organizational task inspires further productivity. Enhances safety. No more tripping over misplaced stuff. Hazardous materials and products are stored properly and safely. Increases monetary savings. No unnecessary repeat purchases of stuff you already have. Longer life of things when stored properly. Fosters welcoming environment. Reflects care and respect for others in shared spaces. (True!) Builds positive habits. Fosters discipline, consistency, carries over into other habits like time management. Any of these reasons never occur to you? Which ones? Personally, I am leaning into this idea in a big way right now! The liberation is crossing over into all aspects of my day-to-day life. I feel less encumbered, more buoyant, freer, calmer, clearer. So here is the call to action! Find a place for everything…EVERYTHING! Start with ONE thing. See how it feels. Finding the home for it is the first step, and the hardest part! Once you have that, everything else falls into place. Literally! Creating space and clarity, allowing more room for gratitude and appreciation for the things we do have. And isn’t that a beautiful thing? |
