”Let’s put a ribbon on that!”…it’s the little things.
Sounds silly, but over 25 years ago I ordered a bunch of ribbon online, different widths, and in the best colors! I tell you, this was, and still is, the most beautiful silk ribbon I have ever had! It cost me a small fortune back then (relatively speaking), but I was tired of constantly buying small quantities of ribbon, and never really getting what I wanted. At the time, I didn’t realize what a great return on investment I would enjoy!
What do I mean by that? It’s part of WHY ribbon is so important to me. And if you’re not a ribbon person now, perhaps you will be once I explain. At least you will come away with an understanding why ribbon means more to me than just a pretty bow. Here are a few (of many) reasons ribbon delights me:
1. Ribbon makes EVERYTHING seem more appealing! You put a ribbon on anything, it’s going to draw immediate attention…attraction! It almost doesn’t even matter what the ribbon is wrapped around, whatever it is looks pretty darn special! Special enough to be donning a ribbon!
And don’t we want to give equal opportunity to things of lesser value? I mean, the really fancy stuff speaks for itself. Of course we’re going to adorn the “big” things in special wrappings. But it’s the little things…those are the things that can truly bring joy to life. That’s why I believe the little things deserve to be beautified…always…Maybe it’s my way of honoring them for their hidden value, their humble grace, the covert treasure they represent. Let’s put a ribbon on them!
2. Receiving a gift, whether extravagant or simple, trimmed with ribbon, makes ANY recipient feel special! It signifies there was extra thought, time and effort put into the presentation of their gift. Whether it be a car or a coat, a bracelet or a book, a pie or a pen, if there’s a ribbon on it, it makes it even more special! Do you agree?
3. It’s better to give than to receive…I totally relate! And tying a gorgeous ribbon around something makes me feel as though I’m giving just a little bit MORE. It’s my way of sharing a small part of me with another. I want to take the extra time, dig around, and find the perfect ribbon to suit that gift, for that person. The hope being my ribbon shows them that I care. Because I do care…a lot.
While my ribbon supply has dwindled, to the point that I need to order more, I have enjoyed countless pleasurable moments and important uses for it 30 years and running! I love knowing that I have it on hand, that I’m prepared for anything. Never could I have imagined how my extravagant order of ribbon, way back when, would bring so much JOY and value to my life and to others? It truly has! This is why ribbon is something I have to have…what can I say? It’s the little things…
